If you’re a teen (age 15+), I will listen to you in a nonjudgmental way and validate your point of view. I’ll also help you figure out who you are and how to deal with responsibilities that increased independence will bring into your life.
Think of me as a neutral third party who really wants to hear you out, and who also wants to help you go through life believing that you’re a strong individual who is worthy of respectful treatment by others. In addition to normal developmental “growing pains,” you’re probably facing numerous pressures and challenges. It’s likely that you’ve become overwhelmed at times and made choices that have affected you negatively.
Some examples of issues faced by teens today are identity development, self-esteem, parental conflict or divorce, blended family, depression, anxiety, peer problems, healthy boundaries (between you and the people in your life), and erratic emotions. Please note that I do not treat individuals with a recent history of self-harming behaviors or hospitalization after a suicide attempt.
An important note about confidentiality
Confidentiality is one of the main components of psychotherapy. However, if you’re under the age of 18, the law dictates that I obtain written permission from your parents before we can begin counseling because they are still responsible for you.
